ROBERT ROCK and Daniel Gaunt have taken early leads during the second round of The PokerMillion.Com Championship at Collingtree Park.
The pair were sat on -1 after the first round, three strokes behind overnight leader Nathan Main.
However, they both produced four-under-par rounds of 68 on Thursday to put themselves out in front, although Main is among the players who step out onto the Northampton course during the afternoon.
Australian Gaunt has twice led going into the final round of PGA EuroPro Tour events this season, while Lichfield player and PGA Pro Rock is less used to the spotlight.
After making rapid progression two years ago – when he shone at the Forest of Arden and Wentworth to gain his European Tour card – the 28-year-old has failed to make the impact he desired since.
“I topped the Midland Region Order of Merit in 2002 and got to play in some main tour events the following year,” said Rock. “I played well for about four weeks in a row and managed to get my card.
“But I struggled a bit after that and felt I still needed to improve in some areas, and I wasn’t consistent enough to do what I wanted to on the tour.
“I’m gradually working my way back now, and hopefully I’ll become a better player all-round.
“I had a lesson on Wednesday ahead of this tournament and have begun to put some of that into play already.
“I’m pleased with how I played today, I produced some pretty steady driving and a couple of decent putts. It’s put me in a good position.”
A further update will be issued later on Thursday.
