OVER 60 players from the PGA EuroPro Tour will take part in the final stage of qualifying for The Open this weekend.
Players such as John Wade, Kieran Staunton, Phil Worthington (pictured) and Andrew Willey will be among the 384 players to take part in final qualifying on Saturday and Sunday.
The players will be playing 36 holes at one of four courses – Ladybank, Leven, Lundin and Sandiway – in a bid to take one of the 12 places on offer at St Andrews.
Wade won the opening two events of the PGA EuroPro Tour season and sits alone at the top of the Order of Merit.
The Australian heads a list of 20 players with EuroPro Tour experience in the field for the Ladybank qualifier, which also features Swedish Ryder Cup representative Per Ulrik Johansson.
Matthew Woods and Yasin Ali are partnered in the opening group on Saturday, with the likes of Andrew Willey, Jon Lupton, Kieran Staunton and Iestyn Taylor also competing at that course.
Worthington, who bounced back from a play-off loss at Heydon Grange to win The Swallow Challenge and move into second place, will be among the players heading to Leven.
He will be joined by Jeremy Kavanagh in the opening group for that stage, with Clarke Osborne, Tim Butler, Ian Ridgway, Darren Charlton and Ben Banks among those following him later in the day.
Mark Smith, who lost a play-off to David Fisher at this week’s Marriott Sprowston Manor Open, will be among those playing in the Lundin qualifier.
Daniel Greenwood, who has had two second placed finishes on this year’s PGA EuroPro Tour will also be at Lundin – alongside the likes of Brad Faxon, Ronan Rafferty and Miguel Angel Martin.
Lee Rhind and Paul Curry, who have won the recent events in Doncaster and Stoke by Nayland respectively, will be at Scotscraig for their challenge.
