Gaunt Surges Clear

DANIEL GAUNT has moved into the lead at The Kronenbourg Classic, shooting a six-under-par 66 in his second round to hit the front at Whitekirk.

Australian Gaunt, the runner-up in the opening event of the PGA EuroPro Tour season at Wensum Valley a fortnight ago, produced a superb round on Thursday to move out to -8.

He is three shots clear of fellow countryman John Wade, who is sat on -5, with Stephen Pullan a shot further back.

Erewash Valley’s Mark Smith moved onto -2 with a 67 in his second round, and Ben Banks hit a 71 on Thursday to put himself in contention at -1.

Four more players sit on level par, with overnight leader Jeremy Kavanagh still on the course.
