Ones to watch: Tulfarris Hotel & Golf Resort

The 2018 HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour season is around the corner, and with it comes four brand new courses to Europe’s leading developmental tour. Each course picked to challenge some of Europe’s best upcoming golfers, with the reward of a Challenge Tour Card should they finish in the top five spots.

One of those courses sees the Tour head across the Irish Sea to Tulfarris Hotel & Golf Resort, the penultimate event in the 2018 schedule where, at that point in the season, every shot can be the difference between a spot at the Tour Championships and a chance to progress on to the Challenge Tour.

Pat Barrett, Golf Business Development Manager at Tulfarris, said: “It is a huge honour for Tulfarris Hotel & Golf Resort to host the Irish Masters on the PGA EuroPro Tour in 2018, 2019, and 2020. It will be an excellent opportunity to showcase our wonderful course that is Tulfarris, and to bring large audiences to enjoy the hospitality and ambiance that Tulfarris exudes. There is already a great sense of pride amongst the team to showcase a property we love. It is the biggest event Tulfarris has hosted since the Irish Seniors Open in 2000.”

Set in the picturesque countryside of Ireland within three peninsulas around Blessington Lakes, the golfers are in for a challenging round. Pat said: “The layout of the course is fantastic, every club in the bag will be used. There is a great mixture of holes with some good chances to score on the par 5’s, but they will have to protect themselves on some of the shorter holes.”

With the lucrative £250,000 four-win bonus in play for a second successive year, Tulfarris could well be host to EuroPro Tour history should any of the golfers enjoy a season similar to that of 2017 Order of Merit winner Chris Lloyd, who won three events.

When the Tour is welcomed by Tulfarris at the end of August, the course will be in pristine condition, whilst still offering a challenge; says Pat. He added: “It will firm up nicely and give great run on the ball. It’s a tough course though, success here depends less on strength of body than strength of mind and character.”

The HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour is Europe’s leading development tour, and the European Tour’s satellite in the UK and Ireland.

Offering direct access to the Challenge Tour through the final Order of Merit, HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour players will compete for over £1.2million of prize money in 2018, with the top five golfers at the end of the season awarded a category on the 2019 Challenge Tour.

Providing vital experience of life on tour, players will compete in 15 main events at some of the UK and Ireland’s premier golfing venues.
