YASIN ALI and Simon Robinson share the lead after the first round of The 2005 Oakley International Open, following rounds of 64 at Morley Hayes on Wednesday.
Robinson (pictured), the winner of last week’s Swallow Suffolk Open, continued his run of form with a superb round to sit at -8 on the opening day in Derbyshire.
That was matched by Dubai’s Yasin Ali during the afternoon to give the duo a slender lead – with overnight rain expected to make conditions tough on Thursday.
Robinson, though, was unperturbed by that prospect after another fine display.
“I’m feeling very comfortable now on the PGA EuroPro Tour and that’s helping my game,” he said.
“I’m happy with the playing environment, I know the other players and officials and I’m also aware of the standard required to be successful.
“When I first started playing it took some getting used to but I’m relaxed and enjoying playing.”
The duo sit a shot clear of two players, with local player Ian Whalley and Grant Hamerton – who is making his first competitive appearance for two years – shooting 65 for their first round.
Ben St John, Darren Henley and Richard Squire are a further stroke back at -6, with a total of 70 players scoring par or better.
