Scottish Open Field Indicates Progress

THE field for the Barclays Scottish Open at Loch Lomond this week is bostered by 36 players who have played on either the British Professional Golfers Tour or the PGA EuroPro Tour.

Since the emergence of the BPGT – administered by the PGA of Great Britain and Ireland – ten years ago, and the subsequent formation of the PGA EuroPro Tour, hundreds of aspiring golfers have progressed to the top level.

Many of those are in action in Scotland this week, challenging for a share of the £2.4m prize fund on offer at Loch Lomond.

Kenneth Ferrie travelled to the Scottish Open on a high after victory in the European Open last week, while Graeme Storm finished second at the K Club event.

Scott Drummond won the 2004 PGA Championship at Wentworth and Simon Khan took victory in the Celtic Manor Wales Open last year.

Lee Slattery (pictured)  progressed from the PGA EuroPro Tour to win the 2004 Challenge Tour Order of Merit, while former BPGT Order of Merit winner Alistair Forsyth is among the leaders after two rounds of the Scottish Open.

Greg Owen and Richard Sterne finished at -9 following two rounds, a shot behind Forsyth.

Ben Mason was the final reserve to be called into the event, just 40 minutes before teeing off with Tom Lehman and Paul Lawrie after Thomas Bjorns’ withdrawal.

China Open winner Stephen Dodd is playing with Colin Montgomerie and Darren Clarke.

Players from the BPGT and PGA EuroPro Tour taking part in the Barclays Scottish Open are:
