Another former star wins on the European Tour - 03/03/2007
FOR the second week running a winner on the European Tour has gained his golfing education on the PGA EuroPro Tour.
Scotsman Marc Warren, 26, recently finished out in front in the Johnnie Walker Championship at Glenagles and won more than €340,000, only three years after he was a hopeful on the PGA EuroPro Tour.
This again highlights the crucial role the PGA EuroPro Tour is playing in the careers of top young British golfers and shows why it is regarded as the leading developmental tour in Europe.
As an amateur he holed the winning putt at the 2001 Walker Cup before he played in two events on the EuroPro Tour in 2002. He then finished 49th in the Order of Merit in 2003 after successfully coming through the Qualifying School.
The following year proved to be a crucial one. He was restricted to only three tour appearances but, unsurprisingly, made the cut at each of them with his best performance being a third place in June 2004 in Cardrona in his home country.
His talent saw him gain invitational places on to the Challenge Tour and he did enough to qualify for a tour card. He took full advantage of this by coming top of the 2005 Challenge Tour rankings to move on to the European Tour.
The victory at Gleneagles, which came after he edged out Simon Wakefield in a play-off, was his second triumph on the European Tour after also coming first at the Entercard Scandinavian Masters in 2006.
Warren's latest success comes only a week after Ross Fisher, a EuroPro Tour competitor in 2005, scooped the biggest victory of his life - the KLM Dutch Open.
