Butler Edges Ahead - 26/01/2008

TIM BUTLER holds a one-stroke lead ahead of Daniel Gaunt and Darren Charlton following the opening round of The Stoke by Nayland Club International Open.

The Donnington Grove golfer made a tremendous start to the event, with four birdies in his opening six holes to take him out to -4 at the turn.

His back nine holes were more inconsistent, matching four further birdies with as many bogeys to take a one-shot lead into the second day.

Daniel Gaunt and Darren Charlton - who lost a play-off in this event to Lee Slattery last year - were the early pace-setters after carding rounds of 69 on Tuesday.

Phil Worthington, Paul Curry and Mark Prue are a shot behind after opening with a 70, while six players sit on -1.

A further ten players shot a level par 72 to put themselves in contention going into the final two days.
