Curry Repeats Win At Stoke By Nayland - 16/08/2007

PAUL CURRY picked up back-to-back victories in the Bartercard Stoke by Nayland International Open when he edged out Mark Ramsdale in a play-off.

Curry, the former PGA and European Tour member who is based in Florida, won the 2005 event at Stoke by Nayland in a play-off, and repeated the feat at the first extra hole this time.

A surge on the back nine of four successive birdies saw him pull level with Ramsdale, and he even had a ten-foot putt to take victory on the 18th.

He missed that but recorded a par three to finish on six-under-par with a 69 and take the event into a play-off once again.

Ramsdale was short of the green with his tee shot, and Curry hit a six iron to 25 feet before recording a par, with his opponent failing to get up and down in two.

"I'm very pleased," said Curry, who is based in the UK for the summer months and represents Braintree GC.

"I struggled a bit today to be honest and until the 13th it wasn't looking too good when I was a couple of shots over par for the day.

"But I knew I had to carry on. The last few holes can make or break you, it's easy to make birdies but also to make bogeys and I managed to sneak in.

"The play-off could have gone either way, but I'm delighted to have won again."

Formby's Ramsdale hit four birdies on the final day in a round of 70 to put himself ahead of the pack, although six players were tied for the lead with around an hour of play remaining.

Welshman Mark Laskey and Scotland's Dean Robertson finished a shot behind the leaders to -5, with Darren Prosser, Yasin Ali and Sean Dohery a further stroke back.

Guy Woodman, who led going into the final day, suffered a nightmare third round, shooting an 81 and finishing at two-over-par.
