Day One Play Abandoned - 29/05/2008

THE WEATHER was the only winner on Day One of the St Andrews Bay Masters in Scotland as torrential rain and high winds played havoc with what little golf was on offer.

Only two groups of three players completed nine holes before tournament officials brought the competitors off the course and later abandoned play for the day.

With the wind moving balls around the green and rain rendering some parts of the course almost unplayable, spectators, players and officials were forced to retired to the Clubhouse for an early finish to the first day.

It is now hoped that should the weather improve sufficiently, it will be possible to complete two rounds on Thursday, but as ever, nothing can be decided until the morning arrives.
