Day To Remember! - 22/11/2007
MARK DAY produced his best round of the year to take a one-shot lead following the first round of The Whittlebury Park International Open.
The Whipsnade Park golfer dropped just one shot in a superb round of 64 on the opening day of the PGA EuroPro Tour event in Towcester.
That put him one stroke clear of Morpeth's David Clark, who shot a six-under-par 65 to edge clear of four players on -5.
A late 66 from Yasin Ali saw him join early contenders Mark Smith, Graeme Clark and 2004 PGA EuroPro Tour Champion Simon Lilly at the head of the chasing pack.
Jason Kelly, Glenn Joyner, Phil Rowe, Phil Edwards and Tim Butler all sit on -4, with a further five players a shot behind.
Order of Merit leader Simon Robinson and Robert McGuirk - who won the event at nearby Collingtree Park in May - are among ten players sat on -2.
Robinson and Smith were joined by fellow high-fliers Phil Worthington and Daniel Gaunt - who both shot level par for their opening round - in visiting the Silverstone motor racing circuit on Thursday afternoon for a special track day.
Former England international footballer Lee Dixon, making his PGA EuroPro Tour debut as an amateur, shot an 82 for his first round, while Whittlebury Park's home professional, Mark Booth, recorded a level par 71.
