Doncaster Primed For Major Event - 03/02/2008

THE PGA EuroPro Tour heads to Yorkshire this week for one of the most high-profile events of the 2005 season.

The Doncaster Open, being held at Owston Hall and in association with Doncaster Council, will offer a bumper £50,000 prize fund.

The winner will walk away with £12,500, as well as take a huge step towards the top of the Order of Merit.

Phil Worthington's win at The Swallow Challenge saw him jump up to second in the standings, behind John Wade.

Michael Welch, Mark Smith, who has yet to finish outside the top seven, and Ben Welch are others hope to see their recent form rewarded with victory in South Yorkshire.

England Elite Squad member and 2004 British Amateur runner-up Lee Corfield will make his professional debut at the tournament.

Owston Hall professional Jason Laszkowicz will join the aspiring PGA EuroPro Tour stars on his home course.
