Duo Take Early Advantage - 15/07/2007

JOHN WELLS and Justin Brown share the early clubhouse lead in the Towergate Insurance Championship at Maylands.

The duo opened their challenge on Wednesday morning with first rounds of 65 to open up a one-shot lead at -6.

Brown shot six birdies and failed to drop a shot in his round, while Wells landed eight birdies of his own but dropped shots on the first and ninth holes.

Four players, including Andrew Willey - who won the PGA EuroPro Tour event at Collingtree Park recently - sit a shot behind at -5.

Willey is joined by David Close, Phil Rowe and Jason Dransfield, with Doncaster's Graeme Clark a further stroke back.

Seven players are tied a further shot back after opening with a 68 and a further ten players began with a two-under-par 69.

A full round-up will be issued at the close of play.
