Fisher Shows The Way - 20/05/2007
FORMER PGA EuroPro Tour member Ross Fisher finished fifth in the Dubai Desert Classic last weekend - producing an impressive showing against the world's best golfers.
Rounds of 65 on the first two days put Fisher, who played on the PGA EuroPro Tour in 2005, clear of the pack.
A round of 71 on Saturday saw him enter the final day just one shot behind leader Ernie Els, and he remained in contention at two-under-par for the round until picking up back-to-back bogeys at 16 and 17.
A birdie at the 18th saw him finish with another 71 at -16 for the tournament and in clear fifth place to pick up €78,828.95.
Fisher was a proud man after pushing winner Henrik Stenson, world number one Tiger Woods, Ernie Els and Niclas Fasth all the way.
"I think my caddie, Adam, probably summed it up when he said, you've only just got to look at the leaderboard: Stenson, Els, Woods, Fasth, Fisher," said the 26-year-old.
"You're playing with the world's best players, you're playing with the world number one, and I think you can walk away from here with your head held high."
Fisher finished fourth in the PGA EuroPro Tour event at Wensum Valley in 2005.
PGA EuroPro Tour Managing Director Eddie Hearn said: "We're delighted for Ross.
"He has shown what young players can achieve with hard work, talent and the right attitude, and I'm sure he will go on to take titles in the future.
"Performances like this are a great incentive to young players turning professional on the PGA EuroPro Tour to see where they too could end up playing in the future."
