Four Sit Clear At Morgado - 12/09/2007
FOUR players share a one-shot lead after the opening round of The Oceanico International Open at Morgado GC.
There was a high-quality start to the PGA EuroPro Tour event on the Algarve, with almost half the field carding a first round of par or better.
John Wells, Lee Wood, Adam Frayne and Michael Welch share a one-shot lead after opening with six-under-par rounds of 67 on Tuesday.
Wood produced a faultless round, hitting six birdies and failing to drop a shot, although that was bettered by Frayne, who shot an eagle and four birdies.
Wells landed nine birdies in his round, while a run of six successive birdies helped Welch to join the leaders late in the day.
Scottish star Graham Gordon sits a shot further back on -5 after a round of 68, which included an eagle and five birdies.
A total of 11 players began their challenge with a four-under-par 68, including Zane Scotland and Daniel Gaunt, with the latter slipping from -7 after 15 holes with a bogey and double bogey.
With conditions in southern Portugal perfect, a further 13 players shot rounds of 70 and ten finished on two-under-par.
Simon Robinson, Antonio Sobrinho and Andrew Willey - all winners on the 2005 PGA EuroPro Tour - are among 17 players who finished at -1.
