Four Way Tie At Sprowston Manor - 22/05/2008
FOUR PLAYERS hold a share of the lead after the opening day of the PokerMillion.com European Trophy at the Marriott Sprowston Manor in Norfolk.
With the wind picking up as the day progressed, the players who finished their rounds first had an advantage over the rest of the field with low scores at a premium.
Phillip Abbott (John O'Gaunt) came in with a 68 two-under-par round which included four birdies and two bogeys as he recovered over the back nine to set the pace.
Ireland's Eamonn Brady followed suit as he carded five birdies on his way to the same score and he credited the round to the work of his new coach who has got his game back on track.
Daniel Wardrop, from Didsbury had an undulating round of six birdies and four bogeys but was pleased with his game, particularly his putting.
The fourth and final joint leader was Colin Mitchell (A Proctor Group/Rustington GC) who had an inconsistent round of seven birdies and five bogeys but admitted that he putted 'like a dream'.
With all the players saying that they had found the conditions tough, it is hoped for more stable weather on Day Two of the £40,000 event.
