THERE is a two-way tie at the top of the leaderboard in the first PGA EuroPro Tour competition to ever be held in Ireland.
The Oceanico Group Irish Classic started today at the Roganstown Golf and Country Club, near Dublin and featured 165 of the finest young golf professionals from Britain and Ireland.
Local player Noel Fox, who lives 15 minutes away from the course, and England's Christopher Hanson both shots rounds of five-under to end day one in joint first position.
Fox (pictured right) birdied five of the first nine holes, while Hanson, a member of Huddersfield-based club Crosland Heath, only dropped one shot all day when he bogeyed the eighth.
Irish players enjoyed a good first day with seven men inside the top 26. Leslie Walker (Dundalk) is in tied fourth on three-under, one shot ahead of another local player, Daniel Sugrue. Gregory Bowden (Hermitage GC), Gary Cullen, Justin Kehoe and Brendan McCarroll (Ballyliffin GC) are all in equal 15th on one-under.
The top 50 players and ties will qualify for the final round and the cut-off point currently stands at one-over. As with all events in the 2007 PGA EuroPro Tour season, the winner will collect £10,000.
