A FINE end to his round saw Adam Frayne move into the joint lead at Collingtree Park, Northampton.
Frayne (pictured right), a member of the Cornwall-based St Mellion club, fired four birdies from the last four holes to move on to nine-under on the second day of the latest event in the PGA EuroPro Tour season.
He is joined on nine-under by Russell Claydon (Gog Magog, Cambs), who is aiming for his second top 20 finish of the campaign.
Robert McGuirk (Princes, Kent) maintained his record of making the cut for each tournament that he has played in this season.
On the first day he had a round of two-under 70, but he bettered that effort today with a five-under 67, which included birdies at four of the last seven holes. That took him on to an overall competition score of seven-under and, at one stage of the afternoon, put him out in front.
In the previous events this season he has finished equal 24th at Wensum Valley, Norfolk, tied seventh at Faithlegg, Ireland and level 40th at Cardrona, Scotland.
The players through to the final day include Brian McElhinney and Graeme Clark, who won the events at Roganstown, Dublin and Faithlegg, Waterford respectively.
Other players producing good second rounds included Scotsman Freddy Valenti and England's Thomas Peacock (Dudsbury GC, Dorset). Both men hit scores of 69, considerably better than their opening day efforts of 75 and 76 respectively.
