Frayne Starts Well In Open - 03/08/2007
ADAM FRAYNE began his challenge in The Open with a solid 71 on Thursday.
The St Mellion golfer battled through the qualifiers to win a place at Hoylake, and is well placed at -1 following his opening round.
A birdie at the third saw him move out to -1 before dropping two shots at the seventh to slip to one-over-par.
He steadied the ship with three successive pars before picking up birdies at 11 and 13.
A bogey at the 14th saw him return to level par before he eagled the 16th hole.
Although he dropped another shot at the 17th, Frayne finished with a par to leave himself nicely placed to build a challenge on Friday.
Frayne is due to tee off at 4.10pm on Friday in the penultimate group.
Former PGA EuroPro Tour Champion Lee Slattery opened with a three-under-par 69, while previous PGA EuroPro Tour winners Andrew Marshall and John Bickerton are level par.
