ADAM Frayne fired the second best round of the season to take charge in the latest PGA EuroPro Tour event.

The 13th PGA EuroPro Tour competition of the campaign - the Ethos Group Classic 2007 - is being held at the Stonebridge Golf Club in Meriden, West Midlands and Frayne is in front after two days.

Frayne (pictured right), a member of St Mellion, produced a flawless round of 62 with birdies at the third, fourth, seventh, 10th, 11th, 14th and 16th to lead the race for the £10,000 top prize.

This effort was also the joint third best in the six-year history of the EuroPro Tour with only Sandeep Grewal (a round of 60 last month) and Paul Streeter (61 in 2003) shooting lower.

Four players are tied in second with Gary Cullen (Ireland), Matthew Ford (Marriott Tudor Park), Neil Walker (Special Steel Group) and Elliot Saltman (Aegon) all on six-under.

Elsewhere, Mark Searle (High Post) has made the cut for the first time this season after a fine second day performance saw him register 66 to move on to four-under.

Other players also enjoying a good round on Thursday included James Mason, Todd Nicholson, South African Branden Grace and Alasdair Hay (Royal Winchester) who scored 63, 64, 66, and 66 respectively.

The top 50 plus ties have advanced into the last day and all of the remaining players are guaranteed to win some prize money.

Every pound earned could prove crucial as the top five players on the Order of Merit at the end of the year will qualify for 2008 Challenge Tour cards.

There was also a further incentive for the other competitors as the leading 60 players after one more event will play in the end of season Tour Championships.

The last of the regular 2007 tournaments is the Ladbrokescasino.com Masters, which takes place at the Selsdon Park Hotel and Golf Club, South Croydon, Surrey, from September 25 to September 27.
