MATTHEW Woods has won the sixth PGA EuroPro Tour event of the season.
Woods, who is a member of Berkshire-based club Donnington Grove, fired a total of ten-under to win the latest competition, which was held at Bovey Castle, Devon.
He began his tournament with a level par opening round but two successive scores of five-under saw him clinch the £10,000 top prize.
Woods (pictured right) finished three shots ahead of Irishman Colm Moriarty with Christopher Hanson (Crosland Heath, Huddersfield) in third, Paul Hendriksen (Fingle Glen - Devon) in fourth and Manchester's Daniel Wardrop in fifth.
All the players who had come first in the previous five competitions were taking part but these men suffered mixed fortunes.
Although Wensum Valley winner Moriarty only finished second in Devon, he still moved to the top of the Order of Merit as previous leader Neil Walker ended in equal 12th.
The other 2007 winners - Guy Woodman, Graeme Clark and Brian McElhinney - all failed to finish in the top 50 and therefore missed the cut and did not earn any prize money.
A disastrous nine at the last hole of Woodman's opening round proved costly, while Clark and McElhinney ended in equal 75th position on eight-over.
Other early casualties included Robert Steele, who had been 12th in the Order of Merit, and David James, who came level fourth in event five at Collingtree Park, Northampton.
Elsewhere, Northern Ireland's Damian Mooney secured his best finish of the campaign, despite a poor opening round of five-over that left him in equal 95th position. But a one-under saw him scrape into the final day and a five-under round on Thursday ended his tournament on a high note as he finished tied eighth.
Once again, poor weather caused another lengthy delay, as play was stopped for three and a half hours due to the wet conditions and this meant the competition could not be completed until 9pm.
