Good Start To Final Qualifying For Stars - 11/08/2007

SEVERAL PGA EuroPro Tour members are well placed in their challenge to win a place in The Open after the first day of Local Final Qualifying on Monday.

Almost 400 players are battling for 12 places in The Open, which will take place at Royal Liverpool GC, Hoylake from 20-23 July.

Local Final Qualifying is taking place at four venues across Merseyside, with a number of PGA EuroPro Tour players producing strong displays on Monday.

At Conwy, Warren Bladon sits in second place after shooting a 70 for the first of two rounds, with four players a shot back and a further five recording a level par 72.

Alex Sandeman is two shots off the top three at Wallasey, while at Formby Paul Grannell's 70 puts him one shot behind the third place pair of Darren Parris and Andrew Marshall - a winner on the 2005 PGA EuroPro Tour.

Zane Scotland, David Fisher and Yasin Ali opened with rounds of 72 at Formby to put themselves in contention.

At West Lancashire, three players began with a 68, with Adam Frayne and Guy Woodman hot on their heels after finishing at -3 on Monday.

Sean Whiffin shot a 70, with Bartercard Stoke By Nayland International Open winner Paul Curry a further stroke back and Daniel Greenwood among ten players at level par.
