Haig Takes Maiden Title - 13/05/2007
FORMER PGA EuroPro Tour member Anton Haig secured his first European Tour win on Sunday with a play-off victory in the Johnny Walker Classic in Phuket, Thailand.
The South African competed in 2005 on the PGA EuroPro Tour as a teenager, before continuing his progression to the elite European Tour.
The 20-year-old held his nerve in the Johnny Walker Classic to birdie the final hole and earn a place in the play-off alongside Richard Sterne and Oliver Wilson.
He repeated the birdie at the 18th to claim the €310,801 title and moved up to eighth on the European Tour Order of Merit.
Haig's brilliant second round 64 was matched by Sterne and India's Gaurav Ghei as the best of the tournament, and he finished at -13 following rounds of 71, 64, 70 and 70.
Simon Hurd, who has also competed on the PGA EuroPro Tour, finished tied tenth at -7, and Marc Warren was a further shot back.
