CHRISTOPHER Hanson will be aiming to continue his perfect record at the ninth PGA EuroPro Tour event of the season this week.
Huddersfield-based Hanson, 21, has finished in the top 55 in each of the Tour competitions he has played in this season and is among 168 players for the latest tournament, which will be held at the Maylands Golf and County Club near Romford, Essex.
Hanson (pictured right), who came seventh in the 2006 Order of Merit, has enjoyed a fine 2007 campaign with top ten finishes at Wensum Valley, Roganstown, Cardrona and Bovey Castle.
With £10,000 going to the winner, competition will be fierce, especially as the top 50 in the order of merit list at the end of the season will qualify for the lucrative Tour Championships.
Graeme Clark, the only man to win two 2007 events, is in the field, along with four other winners - Neil Walker, Matthew Woods (Donnington Grove), Michael McDermott (Stackstown) and Guy Woodman (Stoke Park).
In-form golfers Mark Smith (Erewash Valley), Alex Smith, Paul Hendriksen (Fingle Glen) and Nathan Treacher are all playing, while Kevin Harper (East Devon) returns to the Tour after finishing in the top 130 at The Open Championship at Carnoustie last week.
Benjamin Welch and Justin Brown (Richard Wheeler Golf Academy, Halstead), who both finished in the top 10 at Maylands in 2006, will be hoping for equally good performances in the 2007 event, which is sponsored by Towergate Insurance.
There will be a large local interest as the field includes Ben Cain (Maylands Golf and Country Club), Steve Cipa and Marc Etherington (both Upminster), Lloyd Kennedy and Andrew Pestell (both Chelmsford) and Craig Housden (Channels).
The tournament runs from Wednesday, August 1 to Friday, August 3 and Danny Nickless, operations manager of the PGA EuroPro Tour, is expected an exciting few days.
He said: "It is great to be able to come back to this hidden gem just outside of Brentwood. We're always welcomed with great hospitality and the golf course is always in top condition.
"The guys at Luddington Golf have really turned Maylands into the best venue in the area."
