Johnson Birdies His Way To Pokermillion.com Classic - 06/12/2007
Cardiff's Richard Johnson, a regular on the Nationwide Tour in the States, sealed a great week at Maylands G.C. in Essex as he posted a final round 66 to comfortably take The PokerMillion.Com Classic.
Johnson, who carried a two-stroke lead after two days of play, was never troubled and a haul of eight birdies told the story of his round.
A bogie at the short par four 12th saw his lead drop to just one shot, but birdies at the next three holes were enough to put sufficient distance between himself and the rest of the field.
Johnson is in the UK preparing for PGA European Tour Qualifying School next month, and a sponsor's invite saw him make his EuroPro Tour debut.
Rounds of 67, 64 and a closing 66 gave him a 16 under par 197 total, victory by a four shot margin and with it a cheque for £10,000.
Elsewhere, Warren Bennett closed with a 68 to maintain his overnight second spot and Jeremy Kavanagh blitzed the course record with a tremendous nine-under-par 62. That took him out of the pack to a tied third finish and it was a round that contained an incredible 11 threes!
