Kavanagh A Shot Clear - 06/03/2008
JEREMY KAVANAGH holds a one-shot lead after the first round of The Kronenbourg Classic at Scotland's Whitekirk Golf Course.
The Stoke Park golfer recorded a three-under-par 69 from his opening round to put himself into the lead in North Berwick.
After opening with a bogey, he responded with three successive birdies and added another at his tenth hole on the way to a 69.
He sits a shot clear of Australian duo John Wade and Daniel Gaunt, who shot 70 on the opening day.
"It was a nice way to start," said Kavanagh. "The weather will hopefully hold up and the course was in excellent condition.
"Two of the birdies were at par-fives early in the round, and it was good to get them there and build on that.
"I'm taking one step at a time this week, and to be honest I'm just concentrating on one shot at a time, not the outcome."
Jason Levermore and Stephen Pullan sit behind the leaders on -1, with a further ten players on level par going into Thursday's second round.
