Lilly Stays Ahead - 02/06/2008

SIMON LILLY extended the gap at the top of the leaderboard to take a two-shot lead in to the final day of the Golf Weekly International Open at Heydon Grange.
The Wellingborough golfer was eight-under-par after the first round and a 67 on Day Two took him to 13-under-par - two shots clear of Barry Hume, who shot up the field with a round of 66 including eight birdies. Lilly's two eagles put him in prime position to claim the digital camera on offer from Coors Brewery for the player who records the most number of holes under-par but with 57 players having made the cut at three-under-par or better, there is still everything to play for. Lee Slattery, the runner-up at the previous week's event, recorded an excellent 65 to move to nine-under-par in a group of five which includes Andrew George of Ely City who equalled the course record with a 64. Previous European Tour winner Russell Claydon is dangerously placed a further shot behind and will fancy his chances of making a breakthrough on the final day.
