SIMON LILLY won the 2004 PGA EuroPro Tour Championship and with it took top spot on the final Order of Merit as the season came to an end in glorious sunshine at Mosa Trejectum, Spain.Lilly, from Wellingborough, shot a final round of 67 to pick up five shots and edge out Richard Finch (Hull/Matchroom) who had led after day one before dropping back and then recovering over his final round. Despite a bogey at the last, Lilly had done enough as he carded 208 (eight-under-par) to finish two shots clear of Finch and secure the £20,000 winner's cheque. "I feel fantastic, he said. "My golf was superb and I knew I was playing well enough to win. When I came to the last and looked at the leaderboard I was relaxed and after not playing too well over the last month this made up for it. "I've now got Category Nine on the Challenge Tour and it's time for me to move on to a higher level, but this tour has been excellent grounding for me and given me some good experiences." Finch, for his part, recovered from a second round 75 to pick up four shots on his final round whilst Worksop's Denny Lucas, Tilsworth's Darren Charlton and Oliver Whiteley (Special Steel Group) tied for third on 211 (five-under-par). The top four players at the event will be entered in to the Mauritius Open in December.
The season has now finished with Lilly edging out Tim Rice and Lee Slattery at the top of the Order of Merit with all three players winning over £30,000 during the season.
Lilly, Rice, Slattery, Lucas, James Holmes and David Close have all won their Tour cards for next season. TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP LEADERBOARD | Pos
