Macdonald Cardrona Replaces The Carrick - 05/05/2007
THE PGA EuroPro Tour can announce that the Macdonald Cardrona Golf Club will replace The Carrick at Cameron House in hosting a tournament from 23-25 May.
Loch Lomond's new Carrick course was due to stage its first tournament in May with the PGA EuroPro Tour, however work on the facilities will not be completed in time to host the event.
The superb Macdonald Cardrona Golf Course, situated in the Scottish Borders near Edinburgh, will now stage the 54-hole event next month.
Ian Gray, general manager at the Macdonald Golf Hotel Golf & Country Club said: "We are delighted to be hosting the PGA EuroPro Tour at the Macdonald Cardrona.
"It is a highly prestigious event and we are sure the players will enjoy playing on our fantastic course, which is fast gaining a reputation as one of the leading resort courses in Scotland.
"This is one of a number of significant golfing events set to take place at Cardrona in 2007 - so it's shaping up to be an exciting year."
PGA EuroPro Tour Operations Manager Danny Nickless said: "Whilst it was obviously very disappointing that the Carrick at Cameron House would not be ready, it is great that the Macdonald Cardrona will be able to stage this event.
"Scotland has a fantastic golfing heritage and it was our aim to maintain a presence in the country this year.
"The Macdonald Cardrona is in a superb setting and it should be an excellent test for players on the PGA EuroPro Tour."
Alan Tait, the Head Golf Professional at the Carrick at Cameron House, said: "We felt it was in the best interests of the PGA EuroPro Tour to postpone this event until 2008.
"Although the golf course is ready for play, the clubhouse and spa would not be ready in time to stage this event.
"I would not wish for my fellow Golf Professionals to come to this world class facility when there will be a limited service available.
"The Carrick is a stunning golf course with a resort to match, but personally feel we would be doing the PGA EuroPro Tour, and everyone involved with The Carrick, an injustice, for the tournament to go ahead with a limited facility.
"We are however looking forward to staging a PGA EuroPro Tour event in 2008 and look forward to welcoming the tour then."
