PAUL Maddy has made the cut for the first time this season after a stunning round of 66 on the second day of the latest PGA EuroPro Tour event.

Maddy, who is a member of the Cambridge-based Gog Magog Golf Club, hit a six-under score at the Macdonald Cardrona Hotel, Golf and Country Club in Peebles, Scotland.

That, at one stage, moved him into a joint share of the lead and ensured he would play in the final day of a EuroPro Tour tournament for the first time since turning professional.

Maddy (pictured right) had to battle through two rounds of Qualifying School in early April but narrowly missed the cut in each of the first three tournaments of the main campaign.

But his 66, which included birdies at four of the opening seven holes, was his best round of the season by four shots and kept alive his chances of winning the main £10,000 prize.

Among the players joining Maddy on the final day is 29-year-old Matthew Ford, a former England amateur international, who is a member of the Marriott Tudor Park Golf Club in Maidstone, Kent.

Ford has been a professional for four years and finished 25th in the 2006 order of merit after a season that included a second-place finish at the Players Club tournament in Bristol in July.

He fired a 66 to move on to six-under after 36 holes to complete a fine recovery after he had been struggling at three-over during the early part of his first round.

His second day effort of 68 took him to two-under and helped him make the cut for the fourth successive time.
