Marty Smith Wins Peugeot Hole In One Challenge! - 23/06/2008
All the players who had a hole in one over the course of the season gathered on the 10th tee for a nearest the pin shoot out. Each player had three shots to take and the draw for the order of play resulted as follows:
Order of Play: John Wells (Beverley & ER) Thomas Aiken (South Africa) Owen Davies (Brampton Park) Mark Allen (Worksop) Marty Smith (Knebworth)
Thomas Aiken set the standard, with his first shot measured at 29 feet from the pin. Owen Davies then bettered this with a shot 21 feet 8 inches from the pin.
John Wells stepped up for his second shot which was measured at 18 feet 4 ¾ inches and no other player got close to this in the second round. With none of the first four players making an impact in the third round, Marty Smith stepped up for the final shot of the competition. Having changed his choice of club from a six iron to a five iron, he hit the ball to just 11 feet nine and three quarter inches and a loud roar from the crowd told him that the car was his!
Marty was presented with the keys to a brand new Peugeot 206SW by the Manager of Marketing Partnership for Peugeot, Steve Harris, who said, "That was a superb performance from Marty. Peugeot are delighted to be involved with golf at this level because there are too few opportunities for players of this calibre".
Marty commented, "This is an amazing situation I've found myself in and I'm just really happy to be here!". He added, "I've been practising for six weeks with a five iron because I was sure that was the right club. But with the adrenalin pumping, my first two shots went through the green so I dropped down to a six iron which did the trick!".
