Mitchell Leads The Way - 21/05/2008
AS CONDITIONS improved at the PokerMillion.com European Trophy, Colin Mitchell took full advantage to establish a three-shot lead to take in to the final day.
Mitchell (A Proctor Group/Rustington) followed up his opening round 68 with a six-under-par 64 to take his score to eight-under-par for the tournament.
Early eagles at the second and fourth holes set him on his way at the Marriott Sprowston Manor course and three other birdies were sufficient to cover for the one bogey he managed.
"I played as well as that during the first round, but the conditions were much harder then with the bad weather, he said.
Paul Curry (Colne Valley) hit a 66 (four-under-par) to take outright second place - an excellent recovery round after bogeys on the opening two holes saw him respond with three birdies in the next four holes and six in total.
Irishman Ciaran McMonagle is joint third with Kieran Staunton (Woodcote Park) and Daniel Wardrop (Didsbury).
50 players made the cut and will contest the final round of the event, which offers £40,000 total prize money and £10,000 to the winner.
