Morris Jumps Into Contention - 06/07/2007
MATT MORRIS' round of 64 has applied the pressure to leader Sandeep Grewal during day two of the Sweeney's Environmental Classic.
Morris produced some excellent golf on the second day at Stonebridge to move out to -7 going into the final round - just a shot behind current leader Grewal.
After opening with a 67 on Wednesday, Morris shot eight birdies in his round, dropped shots at just two holes with a bogey at the 12th and a double bogey at 16.
He is one shot behind Grewal, who followed up his opening 62 with a one-under-par 68.
After dropping no shots on the opening day, he did have bogeys at the sixth and 12th holes to partner birdies at four, seven and 11.
Matthew Richardson's 67 put him a shot behind at -6, while Jon Lupton's return to form continued with a 68 to follow up Wednesday's 65 and put him three shots behind Grewal.
He is sat a shot clear of four other players to have finished their second round, including joint overnight leader Warren Bennett, who carded a three-over-par 72.
Successive rounds of 67 saw James Sheffield and Jamie McLeary join him at -4, with home professional Darren Murphy slipping back with a 70 on Thursday.
A fine 65 from Noel Fox saw him join five other players at -3, with ten players currently a further shot back.
A full update will be issued after the close of play on Thursday.
