Owen Urges Players: - 16/05/2007

PGA TOUR star Greg Owen has given his backing to young professionals looking to take their first steps towards stardom on the PGA EuroPro Tour this year.

The PartyPoker.com Qualifying School will be held in April, giving professionals or amateurs with a handicap of three or better the chance to earn their PGA EuroPro Tour Card.

A week ago, former PGA EuroPro Tour member Ross Fisher enjoyed a fifth-placed finish at the Dubai Desert Classic.

And Owen, who was tied fourth with Davis Love II in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am at the weekend, has given his support to the youngsters looking to follow Fisher to the top.

"It's never easy to make your mark in the game, I know that," said Owen, who hails from Mansfield but is now full-time on the PGA Tour.

"I have come the hard way from being an assistant in a pro shop and then through the developmental tours and now to the PGA Tour.

"Every player has a dream and it's important that you chase it.

"Through my association with Matchroom Sport, I follow the PGA EuroPro Tour closely and always watch the action when I can on the Golf Channel in the States.

"The standard is first class and the players that the tour is producing will no doubt be teeing it up with me in the near future.

"It's an absoultely ideal environment to progress within the game and I would urge all players to get to Qualifying School and try and win your spot on the PGA EuroPro Tour."
