PGA EuroPro Tour To Break New Ground - 20/09/2007

THE PGA EuroPro Tour will make its first visit to The Azores next week, when the €100,000 Verde Golf Azores Championship takes place at Batalha GC.

The tournament is the second on this year's PGA EuroPro Tour, with Matthew Woods having taken victory in the Wensum Valley International Open a week ago.

Woods is among 168 players to travel to the Portuguese Islands for the tournament, which is played at Ponta Delgada in the Azores.

"We have held a number of tournaments in Portugal in recent years, and are very excited at the chance to visit Batalha GC," said PGA EuroPro Tour Managing Director Eddie Hearn.

"The Verde Golf Azores Championship will be keenly contested, and the players are looking forward to testing themselves on one of Europe's finest courses.

"The scenery is stunning on the island of San Miguel - but with €100,000 on offer for the players, I'm sure they will have to concentrate hard."

The course is over 7,000 yards long, and also hosts the Azores Open.
