Players' Sights On Maylands Glory - 11/12/2007
THE PGA EuroPro Tour returns to Maylands Golf Club in Essex this week for The PokerMillion.Com Classic.
The tournament, the 14th of the year on the PGA EuroPro Tour, begins on Thursday and sees over 160 hopefuls looking to emulate the success of Denny Lucas.
Lucas (pictured) won last year's Brown & Mason Classic at Maylands, with rounds of 65, 68 and 67 enough to see him hold off Michael Welch's challenge, and he has since progressed onto the European Tour.
Welch is expected to be among the challengers again this time around, while Andrew Willey is chasing back-to-back victories after his triumph at The China Fleet International Open last week.
European Tour player Warren Bennett will also be playing in the tournament, as he bids to return to form following a recent injury-enforced absence.
Maylands professional Darren Parker heads a trio of players representing the Romford course, which will also host a star-studded Pro-Am on Wednesday.
Six-times World Snooker champion Steve Davis will play alongside PGA EuroPro Tour Chairman Barry Hearn in one team, while former world number one darts player Rod Harrington will be partnered by another local snooker star, Stuart Bingham.
Radio one presenter and keen golfer DJ Spoony will also be showing his skills on the course alongside the top young stars of the sport.
