Rain Clears Allowing St Andrews Bay Start - 27/05/2008

WITH THE weather having caused mass disruption to the St Andrews Bay Masters, it was a case of completing one round early on Friday morning so a cut could be made for a second and final 18 holes.

Six golfers completed nine holes on Wednesday, but not a ball was struck in anger the following day as frustration took centre stage in the Scottish town of Peebles.

However Friday brought clear and sunny conditions and after a 6.30am start for the entire field, a cut was set at one-over-par, a score 69 players matched or bettered.

Limerick golfer Tim Rice, who won the early season event at Quinta Da Ria, led the way at the cut with a seven-under-par score of 65 whilst Ally Mellor (Nizels), Joe Templer (Henley) and James Holmes (Mornflake Oats) were nicely poised a shot behind.

Raymond Burns (Newlands) shot a 67 (five-under-par) along with Jason McCreadie (Buchanan Castle).

And a whole host of golfers were a further shot behind: Paul Bradshaw (Gainsborough Golf Club), Ryan Fenwick (Bognor Regis), Colin Mitchell (A Proctor Group/Rustington Golf Club) Stephen Dixon (Bromborough) and David Clark (Morpeth).
