Robinson Makes History At Mollington - 30/11/2007
Wynyard's Simon Robinson made history today by becoming the first player to win three times in a season on the PGA EuroPro Tour, when he took the Golf Pages Classic title at Mollington Grange Golf Club.
Robinson who won back to back earlier this year at the Swallow Suffolk and then the Oakley International Open at Morley Hayes, fired a closing 67 to finish at -11. Robinson held off a strong challenge from Michael Nesbit who finished second after a stunning 64 to set the clubhouse pace at -9.. Kieran Staunton and Dean Barnes finished a shot back at -7 and Yasin Ali, Michael Searle and Dean Ramsdale finished in a tie for 5th spot.
Robinson, who has now taken his season's earnings to £33,597.50 was ecstatic after his victory. "I just can't believe it. To win once was fantastic but to win three times is just a dream come true. I can't wait to go to Vila Sol now and play for 100,000 Euros next week!"
After securing an exemption through to the second stage of European Tour qualifying school, Robinson is now guaranteed a Challenge Tour card for the 2006 season, a huge boost for any player ahead of the gruelling European Tour qualifying school.
