MICHAEL SEARLE is the early clubhouse leader during the opening round of The 2005 Ufford Park Classic.

The Woodbury Park golfer never looked back after opening with an eagle three at the first on Wednesday morning, adding a further five birdies and dropping just one shot in a round of 65.

He sits a shot ahead of Ben Welch, whose opening round 66 puts him on -5, with Roger Winchester, Steven Cowle and Gerlou Roux a further stroke behind.

Mark Smith, who won the recent Whittlebury Park International Open, is joined by Jason Kelly, Kieran Staunton and Barry Hume at -3.
