Spence among line-up in very strong field - 26/02/2007

JAMIE Spence, a former two-time European Tour winner, will be competing in the final PGA EuroPro Tour event of the regular season.

Spence, who won the European Masters in 1992 and the Moroccan Open in 2000, is among the field at the Ladbrokescasino.com Masters, which will be held at the Selsdon Park Hotel and Golf Club in South Croydon, Surrey.

His inclusion in this tournament is another boost for the Tour and helps enhance its rapidly growing reputation.

He came from ten shots back to claim his maiden title, winning the European Masters with a final round of 60 in 1992.

Eight years later he was celebrating again with his second European Tour title when he won the 2000 Moroccan Open by four shots in Marrakech.

Spence succeeded Mark James as Chairman of The European Tour's Tournament Committee in December 2003. He lost his card for the first time in 2004 but bounced back in 2005 with three top tens to regain full playing privileges.

This latest competition will be very fierce as it is the last one of the 14 regular tournaments of the season and each player will have to be at their best to succeed.

The top 60 players in the Order of Merit will qualify for the end of campaign Tour Championships, which will be staged next month.

At the conclusion of the Tour Championships, the top five players in the rankings will advance into the 2008 Challenge Tour.

However, there could be a reprieve for whoever comes sixth as Colm Moriarty, currently third, has already secured a Challenge Tour card after winning an event on their tour a few months ago.
