Steady Hanson on top in Devon - 18/06/2008
Chris Hanson holds the lead in the Bovey Castle Championship going into the final day of the Ivobank PGA EuroPro Tour event.
Hanson's (Crosland Heath GC/GO2SPORT.com) has dropped just one shot in his opening two rounds, with four birdies to take him to three under, one shot ahead of the chasing pack. The Huddersfield man (pictured) shot 68 in Tuesday's opening round and followed that with 69 today - the solitary blemish of his 36 holes coming on the eighth.
Overnight leader Gregory Bowden (Hermitage GC) was five under for the tournament after the 14th but a treble bogey at 15 saw him go on to shoot 71 and sit in the group at two under par. Scotsman Graeme Brown (Golf Fit Ltd/Dalmahoy) was left to rue a double bogey at 12 as he went round in level par after his 68 opening round, while three birdies down the back nine contributed to a 68 for Simon Thornton (Royal County Down) who is also in the hunt at two under.
Northern Ireland's Damian Mooney carded a fine round of 67 to move to one under for the tournament and carry on his good start to the Tour. Mooney (Nevada Bobs Belfast) was two over going into the second round and dropped another shot on the front nine, but four consecutive birdies from the 11th has changed his fortunes - with three under a fantastic score in another day of golf affected by unseasonal weather. The final group of players went out at 3.30pm - the projected cut at 6pm with several groups still to finish was six over.
