A FANTASTIC second round from Robert McGuirk brought him back in contention to win the third event of the PGA EuroPro Tour season.

McGuirk, who represents the Princes club (Sandwich, Kent), looked to be heading out of the tournament at the Faithlegg House Hotel and Golf Club in Waterford, Ireland after a first day round of 74.

That left him in a position of equal 74th and he knew he would have to perform better if he was to secure a place in the top 50 and make the cut.

But McGuirk (pictured right) produced one of the best rounds of the season with an eight-under 64 to keep himself in with a chance of claiming the £12,000 top prize.

His round on day two included eagles at both the 13th and 14th holes and this was a contrast to yesterday when he bogeyed the 13th.

Also moving up the leaderboard was 27-year-old Jason Levermore from Clacton, Essex as he hit a six-under 66 to take his total on to seven-under for the tournament.

Levermore, who has been a professional for six years and previously captained his county at youth level, eagled the tenth and grabbed birdies at the fourth, eighth, 13th, 16th and 18th, although he did drop a shot at the seventh.

Christopher Hanson, from Crosland Heath (Huddersfield) has gained nearly £2,000 in prize money so far after finishing in the top ten in both previous events. He was on course for another fine finish as he sat on five-under after 36 holes.
