Templer Takes St Andrews Bay Title - 26/05/2008
JOE TEMPLER claimed his first PGA EuroPro Tour title when he sunk the winning putt to win the St Andrews Bay Masters at 10.30pm on Friday night!
With the first two days play at the Scottish course all-but wiped out due to high winds and heavy rain, two rounds were scheduled for the final day with a 6.30am tee-off for the opening group.
And the weather held off sufficiently to allow the tournament to produce a result with Templer holding off Gainsborough's Paul Bradshaw by a single shot.
Rounds of 66 and 69 secured the £10,000 winner's cheque for the 26 year-old from Henley, who admitted afterwards he was relieved the conditions held out.
"I was lucky to miss the bad weather on Wednesday because some players had started their rounds and that enabled me to score a decent 66, he said.
"My 69 was solid golf and I held things together nicely for this win which will give me great confidence for the rest of the season.
Finishing alongside Bradshaw was Jason McCreadie who erased the nightmare of his PGA tournament on the same course last year when he shot an quintuple-bogey nine on the 14th, by securing a share of second place.
Tim Rice, who led after the morning round, could only manage a level-par round in the afternoon and slipped back to fourth place.
