The Open tests EuroPro players - 20/07/2009
The PGA EuroPro Tour was well represented at The Open Championship at Turnberry in Scotland.
Four players qualified for the 138th edition of the major - Tom Haylock, Steve Surry, Elliot Saltman and Daniel Gaunt (pictured). Order of Merit leader Surry carded a one under 69 in his first round but failed to make the cut, and it was a similar tale for Elliot Saltman who couldn't build on a level par opening effort. Haylock was the third man to miss the cut but a fantastic second round 67 from Gaunt saw the Australian make the cut, eventually carding 24 over in the tough conditions.
South African Thomas Aiken, who finished 20th on the Order of Merit in 2000, finished tied in eighth spot at one over, one shot ahead of Ross Fisher, a EuroPro player in 2005 and in real contention for the title before an eight at the fifth ruled him out.
