Two Way Tie At Morley Hayes - 13/05/2008

TWO PLAYERS shared the lead after the opening day of The Peugeot International at Morley Hayes GC.

With the sun beating down in Derbyshire, the greens became hard to play as the day went on and they proved the undoing of a number of golfers.

But Ian Walley (Branston G&CC) held his game together, hitting six birdies and an eagle to card a six-under-par 66 despite two bogeys.

The local man revealed it was his best performance of the year especially after a strong start which saw him four under after three holes.

Walley is joined at the top of the leaderboard by Limerick man Tim Rice, already a winner on the 2004 PGA EuroPro Tour.

Rice made two eagles, four birdies and two bogeys but admitted luck had been on his side.

Graham Clark (Special Steel Group) is one of six players just a single shot behind after a five-under-par round of 67 including seven birdies and two bogeys.

Simon Hurd (Pinheros Altos) made three birdies and an eagle in a clean round whilst Ian Spencer (Heswall) made four birdies and an eagle, dropping only one shot.

Graham Rankin (Drumpellier), Australian John Wade and Enfield's Sean Whiffin are also nicely poised on 67 with 11 golfers on the chase with rounds of 68.
