Valentine Hits Par Four Hole In One! - 11/06/2008

AN amazing hole-in-one on a par four hole was the highlight of the opening day's play at the 2004 Sky Sports East Lothian Masters at the Whitekirk Golf Club.

The event is the first of the 2004 PGA EuroPro Tour and boasts a total prize fund of £40,000, with £10,000 to the winner.

The morning session teed-off in warm conditions and Barry Hume was the first to take full advantage with a hole-in-one of his own on the par three sixth hole.

But Rick Valentine stole the show, taking just a single shot at the second hole, which measures 276 yards.

At the end of the morning starters, Scotsman Lee Rhind was the clubhouse leader along with Kieran Staunton, an Englishman in his second year as a professional who finished on the top 50 of last year's PGA EuroPro Tour Order of Merit.

Both shot a three-under-par 69 and were joined on that score after the afternoon's play by Chris Kelly, with Dean Robertson, a former European Tour player amongst a group of eight, including Dutchman Inder Van Weerelt who turned professional last month, just one shot behind.

Robertson had lost his full ranking after illness, but is relishing the chance to return to competitive action and was quickly found his stroke.
