Warren Takes Maiden European Tour Title - 22/07/2007
FORMER PGA EuroPro Tour star Marc Warren won his maiden European Tour title on Sunday with a play-off victory at The Entercard Scandinavian Masters in Malmo.
He finished the tournament at Barseback G&CC at ten-under-par following rounds of 67, 69, 73 and 69, with a birdie at the last putting him in contention.
Robert Karlsson, who led by four shots at one stage of the final round, slipping back towards the Scot before a bogey at the 71st hole saw him join Warren at -10.
The duo bogeyed the first extra hole, but a par from Warren at the second attempt was enough to give him the win.
"You always enjoy winning and I want to do it again and again," said Warren, 25.
"That's what happened on the Challenge Tour last year when I won and for three months afterwards was in contention almost every week.
"It is going to be very difficult to do it every week but if you give yourself enough chances you are going to win one sooner or later.
"I look forward to pressure situations. I don't seem to have any fear of what can go wrong.
"I've got the belief that under pressure I can conjure something up."
Warren won the Tour School Pre-Qualifying at Wynyard in 2003 before finishing second in Final Stage at Saunton, and he had two further top-ten finishes that year, along with a further brace in 2004.
He has progressed to the European Tour via the Challenge Tour, where he topped the Order of Merit in 2005, and now has an exemption until the end of 2008.
"It's a great feeling to have that exemption behind me because I was running out of tournaments to keep my card," he admitted.
"It's been a tough year but this more than makes up for everything that's gone before.
"I'd missed the last four cuts in a row but had been working hard with (coach) Bob Torrance and he kept telling me there was nothing wrong with my swing; it was just a matter of me taking it out on the course."
