FIVE stars from the PGA EuroPro Tour will take part in the Challenge Tour event in Killarney later in July, the Ireland Ryder Cup Challenge.
The Challenge Tour offered invitations to the winner of the recent Marriott Sprowston Manor Open – David Fisher (pictured) – as well as four leading players from the PGA EuroPro Tour Order of Merit.
Fisher and Order of Merit leader John Wade accepted their invitations and will line up in Killarney on 28 July.
However, Phil Worthington, Michael Welch and Daniel Gaunt, who sit in the next three places on the Order of Merit, have instead opted to continue their PGA EuroPro Tour campaign at Morley Hayes that week.
Mark Smith, Robert McGuirk and Zane Scotland also turned down invitations, but Daniel Greenwood, Andrew Willey and Daniel Wardrop will test themselves in Ireland.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for the players to gain further experience in Killarney,” said PGA EuroPro Tour Managing Director Eddie Hearn.
“However, it is an indication of the strength of the PGA EuroPro Tour that many players have decided instead to line up at Morley Hayes.
“It’s flattering that many players have turned down the invitation but we are just pleased to be able to offer our members the opportunity to compete in prestigous events on Tours around the World.”
